First filial piety-themed museum opens in China

The first filial piety museum opened in Qionglai City of southwest China's Sichuan Province on 2, Nov. In Confucian philosophy, filial piety is a virtue of respect for one's parents and ancestors, which is an important part of Chinese family culture.

The museum was funded by more than 500 local residents and enterprises with an investment of more than eight million yuan (about 1.29 million U.S. dollars). It shows the culture of filial piety, stories of dutiful sons and daughters in ancient and modern China via objects, photos and videos.

Official statistics showed that China has at least 62 million empty-nest elders, one third of the total aging population. The funders hope the museum can encourage public to respect and take good care of elders.
